Work

I am an after care teacher at a grade school near campus and being around young children I definitely see a lot of what we were talking about tonight. A lot of the kids have different ways of acting socially. They also struggle at pronouncing words correctly and they try to sound it out. Just the other day a three year old in after care called a basketball a "gratchetball". It was adorable, but is also a good example of what we talked about in class tonight.

  1. Excellent example! Being able to be in an environment where they can have a variety of "language models" is so important. Saying to them in a very natural way basketball in the "correct" way, without "correcting" them provides them an opportunity to hear the word without feeling intimidated or afraid to continue to try and talk.
