I'm sure most of you have heard of Operation Christmas Child, but if not, I'll share some interesting things about it. Every year my church is a relay center for Operation Christmas Child, but this year, I have a bigger role to play in it. A few months ago I was asked to be a Youth leader for our Youth Group and of course, I accepted. We, as a Youth group, were asked to head up and lead the OCC this year. We started by making boxes that are free to the community so they can fill them up with things that the kids in other countries may need such as, hygiene items, toys, pencils, paper, etc. We then go around town and hang up signs advertising OCC. At the end of October our Youth will attend other churches giving presentations and explaining more about OCC. On a Saturday in November we will meet at our church and collect the boxes that the other churches have collected, then load them up and take them to Lexington to the next relay center. Last year, our small community collected over 400 boxes for OCC. That is amazing!! This year, our goal is at least 500!
Operation Christmas Child is an organization set up to reach children across the world. Like I mentioned earlier, the boxes are filled with things they need, as well as toys and such that they would enjoy. Most children have never heard of Jesus, or Christmas. And with these simple boxes those children are opened up to the Love of Christ and hearing all about Him. The videos we watch show their faces when they open up a box, and it is simply amazing. I encourage each of you to participate in OCC if you are ever given the chance. If you'd like to make a box and don't have anywhere to take it, I'd be more than happy to take it with me, and add them to our church collection. It is such a blessing.
Also, a great idea is to make a box in a clear container. I've been told that after they take their stuff out of the box they use the clear container to go get water and carry it back and forth.
This experience has touched my life in many ways, and I really love to watch God work through His Youth.
I will definitely make some for you :) I usually pick something at least once a year to donate to and I would love to help you with this :) Whenever you get a chance send me a list of things to put in :)
ReplyDeleteI look doing this! When it comes back around this year, we need to get a few of us together and make some. It's so fun buying for others, especially when you know you are sharing the love of Jesus to all those little kiddos!
